PARO

The country's only airport is in Paro, making it the first and last place most visitors see. The town is home to the National Museum, set in an old watchtower, that houses a broad collection of handicrafts, armour and paintings. Outside town the landscape is beautiful with streams trickling through the countryside: a perfect walking country. A gentle stroll heads across a wooden bridge across the river to the fortressed monastery of Paro Dzong, while another walk follows the prayer flags through the forest to the Taktsang Monastery, known as the Tiger's Nest, that clings to a rock above the valley.
