Half a day from Kalimpong, driving through stunning scenery is the capital of Sikkim, Gangtok. Set on a ridge with a spectacular mountain backdrop, the views are breathtaking. Visit the Royal Chapel with its extensive murals, woodcarvings and Buddhas. Drive along one of the valleys to the Rumtek Monastery where you will be greeted with the fluttering prayer flags. Black hat Tibetan monks welcome you to join the prayer sessions. The monastery is currently the largest in Sikkim. It is home to the community of monks and where they perform the rituals and practices of the Karma Kagyu lineage.
