ACSS Bare Overhead Conductor
ACSS conductors are similar to conventional ACSR with some very important additional advantages. ACSS can operate continuously at high temperatures up to 250˚C without damage, allowing for a significant increase in conductor current-carrying capacity. ACSS sags less under emergency electrical loading than ACSR, it is self-damping, and its final sags are not affected by long-term creep of the aluminum. 1.improved conductivity 2.better self-damping property 3.very low sag at high temperature 4.high current carrying capacity 5.excellent immunity to vibration fatigue 6.long term creep of aluminum does not affect final sag Specification Tinde Power’s ACSS conductor meets or exceeds the following ASTM specifications: 1.B 500 Metallic Coated Stranded Steel Core for Use in Overhead Electrical Conductors. 2.B609 Aluminum 1350 Round Wire, Annealed and Intermediate Tempers, for Electrical Purposes. 3.B802 Zinc-5% Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy-Coated Steel Core Wire for Aluminum Conductors, Steel Reinforced(ACSR). 4.B803 High-Strength Zinc-5% Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy-Coated Steel Core Wire for Use in Overhead Electrical Conductors. 5.B856 Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum Conductors, Coated Steel Supported (ACSS). 6.B958 Extra-High-Strength and Ultra-High-Strength Class A Zinc-5% Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy-Coated Steel Core Wire for Use in Overhead Electrical Conductors. The stranding available are identical to those listed in ASTM specification B232. Aluminum Conductor Steel Supported (ACSS) is a composite concentric-lay stranded conductor with one or more layers of hard drawn and annealed 1350-0 aluminum wires on a central core of steel. In an ACSS, under normal operating conditions, the mechanical load is mainly derived from the steel core as aluminum in fully annealed stage does not contribute much towards the mechanical strength.
