Flame Arrester

Flame Arrester

Flame Arresters are designed for the safety of pipe or vessel and work by preventing the entry and exit of any flame or halt it from traveling further. It can be used on its own or with other components as a safety system. A Flame Arrester usually has element having aperture that are small enough for entry of gases or vapors. A flame cannot pass through the Flame Arrester in case the aperture size is lesser than maximum experimental safe gap for gas/vapor. By forcing flames through channels that are too narrow for them to continue, the Flame Arresters are able to extinguish the flames. The channels can be made of wire mesh or a punched sheet metal plate or have random packing. Different flame Arresters can handle different conditions and for that the determination of ignition source is necessary.

Flame Arresters Are Subcategorized As :
Deflagration Arrestors : Used with group I gases having no detonation characteristics
Detonation Arrester : II A, IIB and IIC group gases with high detonation characteristics. Used when flame front travelling at speed more than Mach 1 (supersonic) or in pipelines with high medium working temperature
In Line Flame Arrestor : Used in the pipe line and made for flame deflagration and Detonation
End Of Line Flame Arrestors : Used on storage tanks or for venting the combustible gases into the atmosphere. Also used in the pipe line and made for flame deflagration and Detonation
