Also known as Cashew Nut Shell Liquid Resin, Cardanol–formaldehyde resins, both resoles and novolaks, were synthesized from cardanol, which was extracted from cashew nut shells. The meta-substitution and the long hydrocarbon chain in its molecule make the resins prepared with cardanol, highly soluble in oils and imparts superior properties such as electrical insulation and resistance against chemicals to its films.
