It is a flow controlling device, similar in operation to the ball valves but unlike the ball valve, the plate is present within the flow and a pressure drop is injected. The Butterfly valves when open allow the disc to rotate, allowing unrestricted flow and when close, the disc is turned to stop the passage of flow. The actuator turns a quarter with the disc rotating from 0° to 90°, hence the term quarter-turn valves. The butterfly valves comprises of the body, irreplaceable resilient disk, stem, packing for protection, notched positioning plate and an actuator.
