They are virtual high-resolution web cams, placed on arms so as to facilitate their placements over a page. This not only permits a teacher, lecturer or presenter to write on a sheet of paper but also allows him to display a two or three-dimensional object whilst the audience is watching. One of their advanced functionalities is the zoom feature, which allows magnifying of even the smallest print in books and projecting printed pages as if they were traditional transparencies. Further, the room does not have to be absolutely dark making them useful particularly for classroom environments or while giving scientific presentation. A majority of document cameras have the capability of sending video signal to a computer via USB cable. Owing to new technologies, now these cameras can also be connected to interactive whiteboards.
